Peter Kilner
Peter is an executive coach based in Japan. His clients are multi-sector leaders across sectors in Japan, the UK and Hong Kong.
Peter’s approach to coaching is based on developing a confidential and trusting relationship – a partnership of equals – encouraging clients to bring out the best in themselves through attentive listening and incisive questioning. Having lived in Asia for over 15 years, Peter has a rare cross-cultural perspective that he is able to bring to his coaching. In addition to his coaching work, he offers mentoring and training.
Peter has been a lawyer for nearly three decades; he has extensive international transactional legal experience advising on banking, capital markets and structured finance transactions, and significant management experience. As a law firm partner Peter had a lasting focus on the development of lawyers in the firm, both through formal training and development programmes and in day-to-day working life. Following his retirement as a partner in 2017 coaching was a natural progression.
After reading Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, Peter studied law and started his legal career with Clifford Chance in London in 1989. He remained there until 2003 when he moved with the firm to Tokyo, where he was the office managing partner. In 2012 he moved to Hong Kong, returning to live in Japan in 2018 after a year based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He is an adjunct professor at Hitotsubashi Graduate School of Law and a part time consultant to Clifford Chance.
